Having worked in an offline business for over 12 years I laugh out loud every time someone suggests that the costs involved with an online business are in some way expensive.
When you swap rent, rates, stock and staff for coaching, hosting, domain names and out sourcing you have plenty of surplus cash in hand in which to market your online business with. Add to that the variety of free marketing strategies that are available on the internet and you would be hard pushed to find ANY profitable online business owner complaining about running costs.
The work from home online business can seem the ideal way in which to start your own business and you will have to decide which one suits you in terms of product lines, compensation packages and start up costs.
In many cases the MLM type work from home businesses are aimed at people who have never been in business before and have no experience in sales and marketing. There is a tendency to see the small fee charged to become an independent distributor as the total expenditure required.
However, just as in any business whether online or offline, there will be running costs involved and this has to be taken into consideration upfront to avoid frustrations further into your business which avoids and “surprises” you may not have been expecting.

Having run an offline business with huge start up capital required, no website, no support and no training this is one of the best features about an online business.
Some other costs you may not realise involve things like self hosting a wordpress blog (like this one), a domain name, an autoresponder and other software that helps you leverage the power of the internet.
The biggest cost will be marketing your business and although there are plenty of free marketing strategies available with things like classified adverts, social media and video marketing, you will still have to include a marketing budget in your costs to be able to build your business through advertising mediums such as pay per click, banner adverts and solo ads.
The incredible power of being able to accurately gauge your return on investment per dollar spent is the single biggest difference between offline and online advertising and that is where the real power lies in being able to maximise the leverage power of the internet.
Just as you would not start an offline business without taking into account start up costs, rent and rates, stock, shop fitting and a bank loan, the thought of starting an online business with a few thousand dollars may seem very appealing, however the real difference in making any business work is effective marketing.
