When first introduced to the concept of multi level marketing like a lot of people I became wildly excited at the prospect of having customers and distributors duplicating my efforts to build what a lot of people call the Holy Grail, a substantial residual income that would grow exponentially over time.
Despite its popularity and its long history of success stories multi level marketing is facing its biggest hurdle of all time and it is all because of the massive growth in the internet and in particular the speed of which information can be delivered via broadband.
For many people looking to quit their jobs, get out of the rat race, get out of debt or leave a legacy the idea of starting a multi level marketing business of their own as a part-time venture can seem to be the answer to their dreams. The industry is largely full of people who have no sales or marketing backgrounds and who find themselves at the mercy of old school marketing techniques that the multi level marketing industry have always used.
The old school methods worked primarily because there was no other way of reaching millions of people all at once to let them know about your new wonder juice, lotion or potions and in particular healthcare, nutrition and weight loss products lead the way to creating many millionaires over many years.
However the internet has raised new questions, new opportunities and new ways of reaching customers and distributors at levels which are sometimes too big to comprehend. This has led to massive attrition in downlines and increased competition for people’s attention that have never been seen before and for many the only answer is quit on your dreams and your business or learn new ways of attracting targeted customers using the internet.
The internet has highlighted three major flaws in the multi level marketing business,
1. Unstoppable amounts of traffic. With Facebook generating as much traffic as Google, MySpace having a population large enough to rank as the fifth largest country in the world and a projected 79 million people looking to start a home based business in the USA over the next 3 years it is easy to see why many network marketers focus their attention online. If you are still trying to work out why your warm list of 100 people has not made you six figures yet consider those statistics a huge hint.
2. Distribution. To achieve success in your business you need to reach a huge audience of targeted buyers. Offline this is best demonstrated with supermarkets. In order to understand the scale required for success just imagine your product on a shelf in the supermarket, very few will buy it but cumulatively if you have multiple distributors doing the same you will ultimately make more income. Online this can be achieved using Google Adwords and other pay per click marketing.
3. Customer Loyalty. In any business the best customers are repeat customers and the more unique and benefit driven your products or services the more likely people are to remain loyal and buy again. The only way distributors will remain loyal is if the business is working for them, they are getting access to help when they need it and when they too are making a second income that does not require a magnifying glass to see it. Nothing motivates people more than seeing success themselves.
So if you are thinking of quitting multi level marketing once and for all make sure you fully research all the available options open to you first including the internet.
